Chester’s puppeteer tangled in racist row
JOHANNEBSURG – Conrad Koch and his popular politically-controversial puppet Chester Missing were recently involved in a racial spat on Twitter.
In an article published by IOLNews.com Koch was burned on social media after he tweeted: “One gratifying thing about doing comedy in NYC last week was finding out how far SA has come in our conversation on race. World leaders.”
One Twitter user quickly accused Koch of using ‘blackface’ [used to imply patronisation of blacks by whites or by institutions perceived to be insincerely or ineffectively non-racist] and asked, “How many people of colour have to tell you your s**t is flagrant before you go ‘they might have a point’?” – to which Koch replied, using Chester Missing’s Twitter handle.
Do it bro. Keeps me looking cleverer than u, OR read, and give me a decent counter argument https://t.co/OdbEFGE7Z9 https://t.co/OfTq1E7lxI

What ensued was an onslaught of racism claims against Koch.

But I get it, it's easier to zone out than keep getting nailed ;-) https://t.co/UgRyrO9fZ9

The Twitter user that started it all accused Koch of being a “white guy, using p**s big words to tell a coloured guy how you speaking with a coloured puppet isn’t racist”.
Koch then insisted that Chester Missing has no race at all. “He’s not coloured. At all. So now I owe you nothing. The puppet makes no cultural claims on black identity, at all. None. But u still have beef. What must I do now?”
Koch, AKA Chester Missing, ended the argument with a classic tweet.
Ok, being authentic with assholes time is over. Come back when you have an EMMY nom and a court win against a white supremacist. Cheers.

The puppeteer made headlines last year after his puppet, Chester Missing, was sued by Steve Hofmeyr after the singer accused Koch of harassing him over Twitter.
