Everyone’s talking about the BET Awards

JOBURG - Now trending on Twitter, the BET Awards are the hot topic of the day and we've got the breakdown just for you.

Last night, on 28 June, the BET Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

The celebrity guests gave all ceremony viewers quite an eyeful with their garish gowns, daring dress codes and spectacular spills. City Buzz gives you the top five moments from this year’s BET Awards.

Moment five goes to Anthony Anderson who took the liberty of accepting the Best New Artist Award on behalf of the absent Sam Smith.

In true Smith-style, Anderson donned a supposedly Sam Smith-esque wig as he took to the stage to collect the award for the singer. He didn’t end the fun there, as he proceeded to say a speech during which he joked that Smith was not present at the ceremony because he’s white – always such a joker.

Moment four goes to Smokey Robinson who was presented with the BET Lifetime Achievement Award.

He made sure to keep the current generation of entertainers in check with his acceptance speech.

“You didn’t start this. You were not the first in line. The line started way, way, way, way, way before your great, great, great grandparents were born. Also, you are not the end of the line. So don’t be so full of yourselves,” he said.

Moment three goes to Nicki Minaj who took her mom on stage with her to accept her award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist – an award she practically owns after winning it six years in a row.

Moment two goes to the outrageous and controversial Rihanna, who threw a stack of money at the face of BET’s President of Programming, Stephen Hill.

Moment one goes to P Diddy, a.k.a Puff Daddy, a.k.a Sean Combs, who fell into a hole on stage during his 20-year anniversary tribute performance to Bad Boy Records.
