Award-winning gospel music star

JOBURG - Venda-born gospel singer, Colbert 'Colby' Sivhada, has won an award for his soulful sounds less than a year since his album released.

The Mzansi Gospel Awards ceremony was held on 12 June in Johannesburg, with Colby winning the most prestigious – and highly coveted – award of the night.

The artist, who is more affectionately known as Colby to his fans, received the 2015 Mzansi Gospel Award 2015 for his debut album Merciful God.

Sivhada said that when he released the album, he had no idea that it would gain such recognition by the South African music industry – also having won the Best Jazz Gospel category at the Crown Gospel Awards in November last year.

“After struggling for many years to break into the music industry, I regard Merciful God as a ‘miracle’ album,” said Colby.

“I would like to thank Elias Setati, the designer of the album’s cover and label, as well as everyone who voted for the album… I am deeply grateful to the Almighty for making Merciful God a Mzanzi Gospel Award winner.”
