UPDATE: 8 May 2.15pm

Smart stated that there are a number of facts that need to be clarified.

“Most importantly the chicken was never intended for sale to customers and at no time was any customer at risk,” he said.

One of KFC’s quality checks is to ensure that the chicken which is considered unsuitable is set aside and not served to the customers.  The process of KFC requires the team to count the stock prior to processing it for disposal.

The MD said, “Investigations have shown that team members had chosen to use a high pressure hose to break up the frozen chicken for counting. This is not at all in line with our processes, and has been addressed immediately”.

Smart emphasised that the chicken was never intended for sale to customers, and that they would never compromise their commitment to the quality of food they offer.
