JOSHCO services the community

JOHANNESBURG – Johannesburg Social Housing Company (JOSHCO) is at it again – providing homes for those who need it most and turning Joburg into a safer place for its residents.

JOSHCO has been using their time as of late to complete the refurbishments of an old office block that has now been converted into communal housing for people and families in the City.

Since 2007, the company has been buying old properties to convert into housing solutions for people in the lower income brackets.

Europa House at 32 Plein Street in Joburg was previously a 10-storey office block and has officially been opened for rental as a 168 room communal living area with shared bathroom and kitchen facilities.

The company spared no expense in the transformation of the building, even setting aside money to install a generator, for those pesky lights-out situations, and a biometric access point to ensure the safety and security of the tenants.

The main aim of the company was to provide housing for the people who fall in between the income brackets of too much income to qualify for RDP housing and too little income to apply for a bond.

They made sure to consider all angles of the responsibility that they would be giving these people, who are generally first time tenants, by providing them with a workshop to walk them through all the do’s and don’ts of renting their very own room.

There have already been tenants moving into the establishment such as Cathrine Kgathola, previously residing in Hillbrow, who has expressed much content for her new home.
