For the love of hip hop

JOHANNESBURG – The Wits Education Campus's Linder Auditorium was popping, locking and breaking it down as it set the venue for the South Africa Hip Hop Dance Championships 2015.

Dance crews hailing from all parts of South Africa made their way to Johannesburg to show the city what they have to offer, with the main prize of the competition being a trip for the winning crew to San Diego for the International Hip Hop Championships this year.

It was no surprise that the crowd favourites were none other than Joburg’s very own monster dance crew, Freeze Frame, who were the reigning champions of the competition. The biggest categorical awards of the two-day hip hop extravaganza went to mega dance crew, Untimitive from Capetown.

The event did not only aim to showcase the talents of the mega crews in South Africa, but also that of the poppers, lockers, b-boys and those who wished to engage in 2-on-2 battles of all styles. The championships is the largest undisputed dance platform of its kind which allows dancers of all ages, races, shapes and sizes to compete and display their skills to the country and furthermore, the world.

Over the two days the audience was included in the activities, and mothers, fathers, uncles and aunties were invited up on stage to take part in a dancing spectacle that got the crowd very excited.
