Comedy in 99 Shades of Zulu
JOBURG - The side-splittingly funny comedy show, 99% Zulu Comedy opens its nationwide 10th anniversary tour at The Lyric at Gold Reef City on 26 and 27 March.
The line-up includes seven professional comics from KwaZulu-Natal and Jozi, with the first night being MC’d by Tol A$$ Mo AKA Mongezi Ngcobondwane who needs no introduction to the South African comedy audience.
Like many comedians who have gone on to become household names in this country, Tall A$$ Mo is a comedian from a very humble township upbringing mixed with model-c education. It’s this dichotomy from which he draws most of his side-splitting material that has made him a very interesting comic.
His material mainly comprises of stories of his childhood, as well as encapsulates the absurdities that come with living in modern-day South Africa. He has made a huge impact on the local comedy industry, holding his own among some of the country’s best in a growing list of performances and appearances.
He has been featured on shows such as the Homecoming Comedy Tour, the Aromat Comedy Tour, Just Because Comedy Festival, Tshwane Comedy Festival, 99% Zulu and Xhosa Comedy, Blacks Only and many others.
He is unquestionably a rising star in the ranks.
Accompanied by a youthful and charming exuberance, as well as a fresh and unique perspective to his comedy repertoire, it’s hard to imagine Tol A$$ Mo not becoming a bona fide comedy heavyweight in the future.
He will be joined on stage, among others, by Sifiso Nene and Skhumba Hlophe – who will MC on the second night, Simphiwe Shembe, Tsoro, Qatha Khuzwayo and Smokey Nyembe.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the show will have a couple of surprise appearances by other well-known comedians who have been part of this great history.
