Joburg Ballet China tour preview

JOBURG - SOUTH Africa will take centre stage in the People’s Republic of China this November.

Joburg Ballet will present the best classical and contemporary dance as part of the China-South Africa Year ceremonies in Beijing, Shanghai and Liaoning Province.

The dancers will perform the China programme for audiences at home on 8 and 9 November from 3pm to 5pm at the Joburg Ballet Studios in Braamfontein.

Joburg Ballet’s visit to China in November and December celebrates the company’s growing stature as a major South African arts institution, acknowledging Joburg Ballet’s expanding role nationally and internationally.

Its international travels have amplified the company’s global footprint, with dancers currently performing in Denmark, Ireland and Cuba, cementing Joburg Ballet’s place as a world-class African ballet company.

Following the success of Joburg Ballet’s productions of La Bayadere and The Nutcracker Re-Imagined, the company demonstrates its versatility with a diverse programme which reflects the skill and talent of Joburg Ballet’s accomplished dancers and choreographers.

South African audiences can look forward to kick-starting the festive season with a glittering selection of Joburg Ballet’s popular pieces in an afternoon headlined by dancer and choreographer Kitty Phetla’s Carmina Burana and highlighted with pure classical sparkle from the world’s greatest ballets.

Ticket holders are invited to watch the company take warm-up class from 1pm to 2.15pm, followed by delicious tea and treats before the China Tour Showcase at 3pm.
