Adrenalin junkie rap jumps from Braamfontein building

BRAAMFONTEIN - After summiting the highest mountain in the world, one would think Parkhurst resident Lee Den Hond would put death-defying adventures on a halt for a while.

But one would be wrong to assume this fiery 44-year-old adrenalin junkie has hung up her adventure boots.

On 6 October, Hond took to Johannesburg CBD to rap jump from a 16-storey building on the corner of Joubert and Jeppe streets.

Rap jumping is a highly advanced form of freestyle rope work and from the ground it would appear as though the jumper is walking down the building face down.

Hond left onlookers amazed and wondering why she would walk down such a high building.

“I, together with three of the guys that summited Everest with me last year are taking on the Spirit of Adventure competition and we are all going to do something in our respective countries to showcase our spirit of adventure,” she explained.

Hond and her partners will enter their activities together as one entry with the hopes of winning the big prize of going to space.

“I always try to push beyond my limits and the jump on Monday was very exhilarating and was definitely a demonstration of my spirit for adventure,” she added.

In 2003, Hond summited the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest for charity.
