Beatenberg kicks of Jozi tour

NEWTOWN - POP sensation, Beatenberg, launched their new album and kicked off their album tour with an explosive gig at the Bassline.

The Cape Town-based band was joined by local musical partners in crime ShortStraw, Okmalumkoolkat, and DJ Clock.

Known for the smash hit singles Chelsea Blakemore and Pluto (Remember You), the band has taken South African music lovers by storm.

Pluto, remixed by DJ Clock, with its infectious beat and intricate guitar work, made music history when it became the most played local song in the country after spending 17 weeks on the charts – and this before the album, The Hanging Gardens of Beatenberg, had been released.

The event was opened with a spirited performance by pop-rockers, ShortStraw, who worked the crowd into a frenzy before the boys of Beatenberg, Matthew Field, Ross Dorkin and Robin Brink took to the stage to perform a selection of songs from their debut album for their screaming fans.

Brink previously told City Buzz that the band was “incredibly excited” about the tour in support of the album.

The line-up for each of the tour dates will be slightly different, and includes the likes of Thibo Tazz, Groove Afrika, and Gateway Drugs.

“We have a huge cross-section of bands and genres on this launch tour, and it’s important to us to keep this cross-over going because that’s where we’re from,” he said.

Additional tour dates include 4 September in Stellenbosch, 5 September in Cape Town, 12 September in Durban, 13 September on Joburg Day in Johannesburg, and 2 October at Rocking the Daisies in Darling.
