Pop-rocker James Blunt in SA next year

JOBURG - British pop-rocker James Blunt, who shot to stardom with hits such as You're Beautiful and Goodbye My Lover, will tour South Africa next year.

Blunt’s Moon Landing tour will see him perform two shows in Joburg and one in Cape Town in February.

His first album, Back to Bedlam, was released in 2004.

“Add on two more albums, three world tours, four number one singles, five Grammy nods plus two Brit Awards, two Ivor Novellos and a host of MTV awards, a six-piece band and seven whole years on the road, [and] Blunt has proven his musical success is here to stay,” said Dionne Domyan-Mudie on behalf of concert promoters Big Concerts.

Moon Landing, Blunt’s fourth album is the follow-up to 2010’s Some Kind of Trouble.

“It’s about getting back to basics and rediscovering the power of music to communicate emotion directly and honestly, without too much polish or complication,” said Blunt.

The album features production by Steve Mac, Guy Chambers, Steve Robson and executive producer Tom Rothrock, who worked on Blunt’s debut album.

Blunt’s latest singles, Bonfire Heart and Postcards have steadily climbed local and international charts.

Blunt will perform on 14 and 15 February at the Big Top Arena, Carnival City, Johannesburg, after a 12 February, Grand Arena, Cape Town concert.

Tickets will go on sale from 8 July.
