The renowned Arts on Main will be celebrating five years of being at the heart of the Maboneng development.

In the spirit of various celebrations taking place this year, Arts on Main will be also be celebrating its fifth birthday in May. Home to galleries such as Goethe on Main and David Krut, the area began development on 19 May, 2009 as a home and space for the creative community.

Hayleigh Evans, brand and cultural manager of Maboneng Precinct, explained the reason behind creating Arts on Main.

“Arts on Main was developed as a space used to share ideas, and [it] later became the catalyst for the development of the Maboneng Precinct,” she said.

She added that, in addition to being a catalyst for the development of the precinct, Arts on Main also remained the flagship property in Maboneng.

“With a concentration of high-quality attractions and iconic design, it is one of the most popular spaces to frequent within Maboneng,” she explained.

Evans highlighted that the upcoming birthday will be celebrated with various activities that will be taking place during the month.

She said there will be a collective celebration taking place in the area, including a photo series depicting the five-year journey of the area.

“People can also look forward to new, exciting large-scale events that will take place in the neighbourhood over the next few months,” Evans said.

There are also market and gallery openings to look forward to, something Arts on Main is renowned for.

Evans concluded by highlighting future plans in store for the area over the next five years.

“People can expect more of the same high-quality cultural experiences, as well as Arts on Main connecting to other places of significance in the city,” she said.

Arts on Main is home to various galleries and the well-known Market on Main.
