Jozi Film Festival’s worthy winners

JOBURG - Several local filmmakers were honoured with awards at the conclusion of the third annual Jozi Film Festival.

The three-day festival offered Q&A sessions with filmmakers, workshops, networking events and screenings that took place at Killarney Mall, Maboneng Precinct’s The Bioscope, and the Rand Club.

According to festival founder Shareen Anderson, the following films were judged best in their category:

  •  Best feature film: Shotgun Garfunkel by Johnny Barnuzano
  •  Best South African short fiction film: Security by Mark Middlewick
  •  Best international short fiction film: That Music by Dario Verjarano
  •  Best South African feature length documentary: The Devil’s Lair by Riaan Hendricks
  •  Best international feature length documentary: American Promise by Joe Brewster and Michele Stephenson
  •  Best short documentary: Bamba by Yirmeyah Beckles

Best student film: Across the Colour Bar – Luscious Dosi

The festival opened with action-packed heist movie iNumber Number, directed by Donovan Marsh and produced by Quizzical Pictures.

The Jozi Film Festival is a non-profit organisation dedicated to enriching local culture, supporting the city’s vibrant film community, and reaching new audiences through the medium of film.

The festival ran from 21 to 23 February.
