Johannesburg police on manhunt after local businessman is killed

BRAMLEY – Police are not ruling out a hit but the investigation still continues.

Johannesburg police are seeking the assistance of the public after a well-known businessman was shot and killed while driving along the M1-North freeway near Corlett Drive in Bramley on 13 March.

It is still unclear what the motive is and police have launched a manhunt for the unknown suspects, said the spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station, Sergeant Eric Masotsha.

He said the businessman was apparently on his way home in Sandton after attending a church service in Houghton.

He was alone in the car when the suspect’s fired shots using an R5 assault rifle, said Masotsha.

“The victim was shot in the head and five cartridges were recovered at the crime scene.

“At this point, we cannot rule out a hit because from our preliminary investigations indications are that this was well-planned and orchestrated. Even the South African National Roads Agency’s cameras on the freeway do not show the scene of crime, suspecting they knew where they can execute their plan.”

Masotsha added that the car is bulletproof, the windows from the driver’s side were shuttered and it is believed that nothing was taken from the car.

Police urge the community or people who might have witnessed or have any information relating to this incident to contact the police.

Details: Norwood Police Station 011 483 4600.
