Rosebank meeting addresses community issues

ROSEBANK – The Rosebank Operations meeting addressed the various issues in the precinct with some in the process of being solved while others still have a long way to go.

The Rosebank Operations meeting took place on 11 March at the Southern Sun Rosebank Hotel. The meeting, courtesy of non-profit companies Rosebank Management District (RMD) and Lower Rosebank Management District (LRMD), was attended by various stakeholders.

Precinct manager at Excellerate Managed Services, Lerato Khiba facilitated the meeting and highlighted the issues the precinct is currently facing. She said in way of addressing logged and reported complaints, the Johannesburg Roads Agency was fixing the sections of roads which had been messed up during some projects where contractors had dug up. The management district has been conducting operations in conjunction with Rosebank Police Station and other security companies and has requested the City of Johannesburg for park rangers.

The park opposite the Netcare Rosebank Hospital was fenced by the RMD but a tree that fell on a section of the fence left it damaged. Rosebank Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe was concerned that the damage, which is in the form of a big hole, had become a gateway for displaced people to go into the park and misbehave. Khiba said the RMD had plans which they were currently working on to fix the damage.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck informed attendees that the Nodal Review policy had passed a council vote last month (27 February). He then added that future developments in the ward were expected to go through changes in terms of rezoning although not too many changes.

Khiba said the lack of mini-bus taxi parking space was still a challenge and on the other hand she was following up with Johannesburg Property Company regarding attaining enough waste containers at the taxi rank. “We are currently looking towards possible partnerships with various entities such as City Parks for their support with tree felling, cutting long grass, park maintenance and general horticultural services.

“Another partnership we are aiming towards is one with Pikitup for possible separation-at-source initiative for the precinct.”

Excellerate Managed Services manager Simon Molele said the RMD ambassadors were hard at work within the precinct in February. “They focused their efforts on reinstatements and maintaining the islands in the precinct on various road and avenue intersections. They also focused on identifying and executing greening and beautification; removing graffiti as well as ensuring maintenance of public area signage.”
