Pridwin cricketers return from successful tour of KwaZulu-Natal Midlands

MELROSE – Coach of the U11A cricket team Eswee Prinsloo said the boys grew in character and experienced sport away from the comfort of their homes.

Pridwin Preparatory School U11A cricket team returned from a successful cricket tour to the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

The tour was the first of its kind for the school at this level.

Pridwin was graciously hosted by Clifton Preparatory School in Nottingham Road who, together with KZN Inland Cricket Association, created a memorable tour for the young cricketers.

Deputy headmaster at Pridwin Prep and coach of the team Eswee Prinsloo said, “It was an amazing experience for the boys. The boys learn from these types of experiences and grow in character and I could see this happen over the four days we spent together.”

Matches were played against Clifton, Northdale and Imbali Hubs.

The boys played two of their matches at the historic and world-renowned Pietermaritzburg Oval, a stadium rich in history which saw its first game take place in 1895.

“It was an absolute highlight for the boys as they got to experience what international and franchise teams experience on match days at the stadium.”

Prinsloo added that the tour was not about the results at the end of the day, but rather about boys learning about other cultures, making new friendships and experiencing sport and everyday life away from the comfort of their homes.

He said the tour had a strong outreach element.

“The aim of the matches against Northdale and Imbali Hubs to the boys was that cricket runs through all walks of life and that they need to understand how lucky they are but at the same time support those less fortunate, but still enjoy the sport.”

Prior to the tour, the boys went on a cricket equipment drive and helped refurbish the equipment used by the development teams and the hubs that desperately need them.

Prinsloo also thanked the KZN Inland Cricket Association and Clifton for contributing to the success of the tour.
