St John’s rowers impress at Buffalo Regatta

HOUGHTON – St John's College rowers performed well at the Buffalo Regatta in East London.

St John’s College rowing participated in the annual RMB Buffalo Regatta and the Selborne Sprints in East London recently, where the touring squad earned some impressive results.

The Buffalo is one of the oldest regattas in the country. It saw the St John’s U15 Scull win their section while the Second 8 and First Coxless Four both took silver medals.

The Selborne Sprints also saw a good display from the St John’s rowers, which saw the Second 8, Second Quad, First 8, First Coxless Four and the U16 Scull all winning gold.

Captain and Stroke of First 8 Sven Solot was impressed with the efforts of the rest of the First 8 crew at Selborne Sprints. “I witnessed our eight come together to push for something greater than ourselves. We had little concern for the result and remained truly in the moment,” said Solot.

The rowers look to continue with their good work as they prepare for the South African School Championships.
