Charlotte Maxeke Hospital welcomes 24 babies while Netcare Park Lane welcomes five babies on New Year’s day

PARKTOWN – Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital delivered 24 babies, while Netcare Park Lane Hospital welcomed five newborns into the world.


The Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in Parktown welcomed a total of 24 New Year’s babies on 1 January.

Spokesperson for the hospital Lungiswa Mvumvu said that 12 males and 12 females arrived on the first day of the new decade.

Five of the newborns were delivered by cesarean section while the remaining 19 had normal deliveries.

Netcare Park Lane Hospital reported that a total of five babies (four girls and one boy) were delivered at the hospital on 1 January.

The Gauteng Department of Health reported that 213 babies were born at Gauteng public healthcare facilities between 12 midnight and 12noon on 1 January.
