Thrillers, chillers and romance in store

JOBURG – We have some funny movies lined up for date night and something hair-raising for the thrill seekers in cinemas from 22 November.

• Sports and drama come together in Ford v Ferrari, the true story of the battle between Ford and Ferrari to win 24 hours of Le Mans in France. Starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, the duo takes the American Dream for a ride as American automotive designer Carroll Shelby and fearless British race car driver Ken Miles go against the big bosses and corporate interference, the laws of physics and their own personal demons to build an innovative car for the Ford Motor Co. Together, they go against the race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the competition in true American muscle style!

• Imagine a life without phones, the Internet and memes … well imagine no more because Jexi has all the receipts. Starring Adam DeVine as a socially awkward Phil, the comedy follows his cell phone addiction as he upgrades to a newer model programmed with Jexi – an artificial intelligence life coach, virtual assistant and cheerleader. With Jexi’s help, he begins to get a real life. But as he becomes less dependent on the phone, Jexi starts to transform into a tech nightmare that’s determined to keep Phil all to itself.

• Get ready for a nail-biting and thrilling South African drama. Cut-Out Girls tells the story of how six young women’s lives are altered by the actions of two aspiring sportsmen, Kevin and Mike. With one thing on their mind – getting ahead in their professional sport, tennis, the guys discover a dangerous component to unlocking their true potential. When things spiral out of control, the women, men and drugs all become intertwined weaving dangerous consequences. The film stars talented South African actors Joel Rosenblatt, Ashleigh van der Hoven, Cody Mountain, Atlanta Johnson, Meghan Oberholzer, Keziah Gabriel, Chloe Papademetriou, Michelle Scott and others.

• This French comedy will have you smiling till the end. Nobody’s Perfect (Bonne Pomme) is the tale of a French mechanic who is tired of his family life and cheating wife. He packs up and moves to a picturesque village in France. His whole life gets turned upside down – in a good way. While there, he meets a beautiful woman who runs a worn-down local inn. Mysterious and unpredictable, their encounter sparks a new-found lust for life. The film stars iconic actors Gérard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve.
