Greenside principal reflects on another year at the Best Public High School

GREENSIDE – Principal Nicola Whyte said the school's numerous achievements have been incredibly rewarding for the community.

Greenside High School principal Nicola Whyte reflected on a year of highs at the school following their second win of the Best Public School as part of the Best of Joburg competition.

Tinotenda Mudzingwa, a 2018 matric learner, was awarded the prize for the top NSC candidate in Gauteng while Joshua Trace was awarded the prize for top accounting candidate in Gauteng.

Whyte said these achievements have been incredibly rewarding for the Greenside community including having achieved a 100 per cent 2018 matric pass rate, with 97 per cent of learners qualifying to study at a tertiary level.

Whyte added that in the cultural department, the numerous accolades awarded to the learners at the Edenvale Acting and Drama Society Festival, the Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts and the Gauteng Regional Amateurs Dramatic Series Festival have also contributed to the school’s long-standing reputation for cultural excellence.

She said the school’s sportsmen and women were selected for the Soncini Games in October, basketball players made it to the quarter-finals of the Johannesburg School Basketball League and the rugby girls were selected to attend the South African High-Performance Camp in Paarl.

Whyte said the school had a number of big renovations on the cards for 2020 but the current state of the economy had impeded some of these endeavours.

“Every year brings in a new cohort of learners and as much as we will miss our matrics, the energy and enthusiasm that arrives with our new group of Grade 8s inspire us every year.”

“Greenside High School values and thanks the learners and their families who assist in making the school what we are.”
