October saw the start of the annual Old Mutual/Roedean School Prestige Cup. Now in its ninth year, this has become a major event on the water polo calendar. Ten top Gauteng schools play out for the honour of winning the Prestige Cup, of which the underlying heart is community service.

The initial rounds were played on 12 October and the results were as follows: St Mary’s, St Stithians, Crawford and Kingsmead were undefeated in their respective pools on the day.

In January, the tournament will resume with the balance of the round-robin games. Play-offs and finals will take place on 22 February next year.
