Young outstanding role model gets an award

PARKTOWN – Parktown Girls learner proved that one is never to young as her diligence and respectful personality scored her the Good Citizen Award.

The Rotary Club of Johannesburg Good Citizen Award was handed out at the recent Parktown High School for Girls awards evening.

The award presented by Rotarian Dr Angela Long goes to a learner who is an outstanding role model and sets a good example of citizenship.

The award went to Grade 12 learner Kiara Valadon.

Kiara has a rare gift to uplift others and show compassion even when faced with her own challenges. She is polite and respectful and is noted for her ability to understand and care for all whom she interacts with, young and old.

Through her active involvement in community service since Grade 8, and a passion for helping people and the environment, Kiara has initiated various collection drives, environmental awareness campaigns and volunteered at charities and fundraising events.

Over the past five years, Kiara has tutored children at the Christ Church Community Care Centre in Hillbrow, organised holiday clubs at the Zama Montessori School and visits to children and old age homes, and volunteered at events organised by schools in Parkview, the Parkview Residents Association, the Nicarela Charity, CHOC Foundation, St Martin’s Church and Rise Against Hunger.

Kiara has also willingly assisted at Parktown events such as the PA Action Day, Market Day, and the first fun run at the Johannesburg Zoo this year.

Her desire and commitment to helping others has been unwavering. She has quietly and compassionately served, spreading hope and love to so many, without expecting praise or recognition. She is a worthy recipient of the Rotary Good Citizenship Award.
