Non-profit charity still going strong

CRAIGHALL PARK – REEA Foundation is grateful to all community members for help with finances towards significant revamps they've had this year.

The non-profit charity, REEA Foundation in Craighall Park which cares for 39 permanent residents and provides 24-hour nursing care to people living with epilepsy, managed to do a few significant revamps this year.

According to one of the directors at the purely-voluntary board at REEA Foundation, Angus Rowe, the old fence was stolen alongside power cables, switchgear and sewerage pumps.

“REEA used to have to rent a pump every week and it cost a fortune. We managed to raise money over the past few years and when we had enough, we replaced the old fence as well as new pumps and power cables.”

He added that as a foundation which aims to uplift the community, they have also made a children’s play area with a childminder present.

On the next road in York Street the residents are accommodated and the costs of maintenance are huge. Rowe said,

“The foundation uses the river property which it owns to generate income to help cover operating costs for the residents.

“The various tenants, which include Delta Café, Heart and Heritage clothes shop, Colourful nursery, The Hermitage art studio, Gerakaris Wines, stables, Lemon Tree Events and Physiotherapy and Pilates Studio, among others, assist by paying rental to REEA.”

He added that some of the tenants run some outreach programmes, for instance, the Delta Café runs a weekly feeding scheme. It is not only the tenants who contribute but also REEA’s own programmes which include the charity shop, pet food delivery service and book shop which contributes to a literacy programme through the donation of books to underprivileged children.

The charity shop always welcomes household and clothing stuff and more books are welcome to the bookshop.

Rowe said the foundation runs a tight ship which often struggles but they were lucky to have Alex Sheffield as a general manager to keep things afloat. Sheffield said it was a team effort. “Thank you to all the volunteers and the community at large for the support thus far and we encourage more and more community support and awareness towards the charity.”
