City awards 55 properties for redevelopment north of the inner-city

JOHANNESBURG – MMC for Development Planning Reuben Masango exalted mayor Herman Mashaba for the construction vision unfolding and his efforts to address infrastructure backlog in the City.


The Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba, the MMC for Economic Development Councillor Leah Knott, the MMC for Development Planning councillor Reuben Masango, and the CEO of the Joburg Property Company, Helen Botes, handed over 55 properties for redevelopment which are on a critical transport node running north of the inner-city.

One of the companies awarded the tender is Morei Matji and Associates, a 100 percent black-owned company that will develop properties in Orange Grove and Houghton. They’ve previously done work for City Power and the Department of Education.

The female-owned Indigo Kulani Group has also been awarded a tender and will redevelop a mix-used income development in Orange Grove. Peu Ya Africa Consulting Engineer and Project consortium has been awarded the tender to redevelop properties in Houghton.

Masango exalted Mashaba for his vision and his efforts to address the infrastructure backlog in the city.

Mashaba said the earmarked properties in Houghton and Orange Grove will consist of two- to four-storey buildings depending on approved building plans and will offer low-cost quality housing with rentals starting at R900.
