16 people injured after minibus taxi crashes into Joburg Zoo wall

PARKVIEW – A baby and a child are among those who were treated after the crash.


A minibus taxi driver has been arrested by Metro police after he crashed into the Johannesburg Zoo wall on Jan Smuts Avenue in Parkview, leaving 16 passengers injured this morning, 15 September.

Spokesperson for ER24, Russel Meiring said the incident took place while roads were cordoned off during the Gerald Fox Memorial Run.

“ER24 paramedics from two branches arrived at 10.30am to find multiple services in attendance. One seriously injured female was treated using advanced life support interventions before being transported to a private hospital for further care,” he said.

He added that four other adults were treated by ER24 medics and transported to Hillbrow Clinic to receive further treatment.

There were 11 other patients, including one baby and one child, who were treated by other services on the scene.

Local police and Metro police were also on the scene to conduct further investigations, as the cause of the incident is not yet known.
