Public invited to Joburg Water pipeline replacement project meeting at Joburg Zoo

PARKVIEW – The meeting will discuss the launch of the water pipeline replacement project in Saxonwold, it will take place on 28 August.


All Saxonwold residents, businesses, organisations, community liaison officers and residents around Ward 117  have been invited to a Joburg Water pipeline replacement project public meeting on Wednesday, 28 August. 

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck posted on Facebook that the area has had numerous pipe bursts and water leaks over the past few years. According to the post, “The water infrastructure has passed it’s useful lifespan and needs to be replaced.

“This project will have a major impact on the suburb as over 10 km of new water pipes will be laid along 21 Saxonwold roads. All the old water meters will be replaced along with air valves, fire hydrants and isolation valves. There will be trenching in sidewalks and roads.”

Truluck added that the project will be conducted by Expanded Public Works Programme Contractor Learnership Programme Vuku’phile, is projected to cost R38.5 million and is expected to be completed within four months.

The meeting will discuss the introduction of the project, the appointment of SMMEs and the appointment of general workers.
