Road markings on Jan Smuts Avenue to be cleaned

CRAIGHALL – Ward 90 councillor Martin Williams cleans up road markings to make them more visible, especially at night.

After receiving complaints from various community members about faded road markings on Jan Smuts Avenue, Ward 90 councillor Martin Williams sought to intervene.

Williams contacted the Johannesburg Roads Agency who agreed to meet with him to demonstrate how the road markings could be cleaned with degreaser and be restored to their former condition.

Williams said he received complaints from residents about the road markings, which were difficult to see at night, at the intersections of Jan Smuts Avenue and Burnside Road, Buckingham Avenue and Conrad Drive.

“According to officials, the texture and composition of the recommended paint causes dirt to remain on the marked surface,” said Williams.

He explained that Jan Smuts Avenue had been painted within the last six months, so it was unusual that the lines had already faded.

After seeing how the degreaser removed the dirt from the road markings, Williams made a formal request for the JRA to clean the road markings. He anticipates that the cleaning will be completed within the upcoming weeks to make the markings on the main road more visible.
