Join the Global March for Elephants, Lions and Rhinos in Parkview on 13 April

PARKVIEW – Protesters will march from Zoo Lake to the Jan Smuts entrance of the Johannesburg Zoo.

Community members are invited to join the Global March for Elephants, Rhino and Lions between 10.30am and 12.30pm beginning at Zoo Lake on 13 April.

According to Johannesburg representative from Beauty Without Cruelty Laureen Bertin, the event is for all animals in the wild that are mistreated, trafficked and used for their body parts.

“We hope to raise awareness that regulations should be reviewed concerning the trade of animals and anything which places wild animals under threat,” said Bertin.

The event will take place in Johannesburg on the same day as it is taking place in Durban. This also follows a successful protest in Cape Town last week.

A number of organisations will be supporting the march including Beauty Without Cruelty, Ban Animal Trading, Rhinos in Africa and a number of other organisations.

Any community members who would like to support the cause are invited to make their voices heard and join the race against extinction for these wild animals.

Protesters will gather at 10.30am at the corner of Ennis Road and Lower Park Drive in Parkview. A short march will then commence from Zoo Lake Park to the Johannesburg Zoo entrance on Jan Smuts Avenue where a human chain will then be formed along Jan Smuts Avenue.

Protesters are also encouraged to bring their own banners, posters, carnival outfits, vuvuzelas and sunscreen.
