City Power has confirmed that they are aware of the constant power outages in several areas of Johannesburg, but particularly those areas supplied by Hursthill Substation.
Hurshtill Substation includes areas of Parkhurst, Greenside, Brixton, Mellville, Linden.
According to MMC Nico da Jager, most of City Power infrastructure is ageing and deteriorating.
The power utility said due to the experienced load-shedding last October has worsen the infrastructure. Including the rains since December which further exasperated the current situation.
@CityofJoburgZA apologizes for these outages and the inconvenience it causes to residents and business.
Due to the nature of the faults, it is taking longer than usual to attend to customers queries.#Hursthill @NicoDeJager64

However human error is also a contributing factor and City Power said they will be investigating the prolonged resolution times.
In the areas of Melville and Vrededorp, the power outages were due to the recent heavy rains which caused lines to snap and poles to fall over the surrounding areas.
In Parkhurst, theft of overhead line after a prolonged power outage on the weekend. Technicians are on site and are busy stringing new lines.
Its not an exact science – you have to let the guys do the work and they will finish when they finish. It will continue to be like this for many more years until the infrastructure is upgraded – so I would advise getting some solar back up or inverters.

Greenside and Linden’s recent outages were due to damaged cables caused by ongoing excavation in the area.
City Power says it needs more funding, de Jager added that City Power management, the Office of the MMC Environment and Infrastructure Services are working hard to put additional resources both internally and externally together to help contain the problem of ageing infrastructure.
The City has apologised for the delays at attending to customers queries due to the nature of the faults.
