Classical music lovers enjoyed the opening event of the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival hosted at the Wits Linder Auditorium on 19 January.
The Viennese New Year concert was conducted by Richard Cock with performances by soprano Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi, tenor Phenye Modiane, marimba player Magdalena de Vries accompanied by the impressive Johannesburg Festival Orchestra. The feel-good programme brought together compositions by Johann Strauss II, Mozart, Franz Léhar and other well-known composers, bringing a light introduction to the festival titled Ein Musikalischer Spass (The Musical Joke), which runs until 3 February.
