Joburg named the second best African city for students

JOHANNESBURG- Jozi moved up five places to make it as the second highest score in Africa.

Johannesburg has been voted as the second best African city for students.

This is according to the 2018 QS Best Student Cities Survey. Out of the 100 top cities to study in, Jozi moved up five places from position 84 in 2017 to position 79 last year. The City of Gold achieved a high score for affordability in the Best Student Cities index, reflecting its fairly low tuition fees and living costs. Cape Town came out on top as the best African city for students, ranking at 71. QS’s Student View indicator is based on the survey responses of 18 000 students worldwide.

Students were asked to name the city in which they would most like to study, their experience studying in a particular city, and their intention to remain post-graduation. Cities were ranked according to performance in six composite indicators: desirability, rankings, student mix, employer activity, affordability, and student view.

For students looking for a welcoming environment to study with all the perks of a big city feel but a supportive friendly environment, Johannesburg may not always come to mind. However, it is easy to see why so many students love living in the City of Gold.
