St John’s College – ‘This has been a truly exceptional year’ #matrics2018

HOUGHTON – St John's College celebrates the massive achievement of their matriculating young men.

St John’s College congratulates the class of 2018 on an outstanding set of matric results.

“This has been a truly exceptional year,” said executive headmaster, Paul Edey. “More than 40 per cent of the St John’s class of 2018 achieved an academic average of at least 80 per cent. 71  percent of St John’s College students achieved an average of at least 70 per cent. ”

The 141 St John’s matriculants returned 433 distinctions in the 2018 Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exam. Of the 122 boys who wrote the maths exam, 70 achieved an A.  In English, 51 candidates achieved an A and in Physical Sciences, 40 of the 103 candidates achieved a distinction.

The excellence of the all-round education offered at St John’s was highlighted by the exceptional results in dramatic arts where 31 out of 33 candidates achieved distinctions.

15 out of 22 students achieved distinctions in information technology and eight out of nine students in French achieved an A.

Nicholas Moschides achieved 9 distinctions.

Nicholas Moschides, an aspirant teacher, has matriculated from St John’s College with a full house of nine distinctions.

Moschides got his distinctions in advanced programme maths, maths, English, Afrikaans, French, history, life orientation, physical science and trinity music. He’s an excellent musician (playing both piano and organ) and is a keen wildlife photographer.

Joshua Bailey, Zander Drotskie, Sibongakonke Kubheka, Michael Kurzewski and Alexander Scriba achieved 8 distinctions each, while 12 St John’s young men each achieved seven distinctions: Raymond Barrow, David Brown, Matthew Chamberlin, Nicholas Ching, Zak Coetzee, Lukhanyo Kwini, Cameron Lengacher, Benjamin Macqueen, Jamie Rosengarten, Zachary Sennett, Bastiaan van Wamelen and Christopher Williams.
