Parktown Girls’ headmistress shares her highlights from 2018

PARKTOWN – Headmistress at Parktown Girls' Tracey Megom discusses 2018 at the all-girls school.

Headmistress of Parktown High School for Girls Tracey Megom wished to thank the community for their support over the past year as she discussed some of the highlights from 2018.

Megom said this year the all-girls school celebrated its 95th birthday, officially opened their long-awaited AstroTurf and were acknowledged as the top feeder school to the University of Witwatersrand and the University of Johannesburg. She said that the school was also proud of their 2017 matrics that received a 100 per cent qualification for tertiary education and a 97 per cent bachelor pass.

She said the school’s main challenge is the fact that it represents a microcosm of a diverse South African society, bringing with it the challenge of accepting and understanding each other’s differences.

“This diversity is also our biggest strength as we are educating our girls on how to work together to be active, participating global citizens; leaders of the future. This is a very exciting challenge and we are working hard to achieve social cohesion which is something lacking in our country as a whole.

“On behalf of Parktown High School for Girls, I would like to thank the Parkview and surrounding communities for all the support they have given the school over the course of 2018. Our school is embedded in the centre of this amazing community and we are doing our best to add value. Thank you to everyone who has assisted in some way to help us do that. We would also like to wish all community members a blessed and peaceful festive season and safe travels to those who are travelling over this holiday period.”

Megom looks forward to continuing to lead Parktown Girls’ in 2019. “The educational space is uncertain but it is also one of the most exciting and rewarding professions. We accept the challenges it brings as we believe, wholeheartedly, in what we are doing and that what we are doing will make a difference to the future of these young girls and our country.”
