Girls at St Teresa’s learn more about Kids Kicking Cancer

ROSEBANK – Sensei Moses Sebopa educates girls about martial arts techniques to help kids cope with cancer.

Karate instructor and Kids Kicking Cancer (KKC) programme coordinator in Gauteng Sensei Moses Sebopa visited St Teresa’s School in Rosebank recently to educate learners about the work KKC is doing in public hospitals across South Africa.

The goal of the organisation is to teach children to cope with cancer through martial arts. Specially trained black belt martial artist volunteers teach breathing, visualisation and relaxation techniques in addition to traditional martial arts moves, to empower children and provide them with a sense of power, peace and purpose.

Girls from St Teresa’s presented Sebopa with handmade gifts to hand over to the sick children.

KKC was founded in America in 1999 by Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, who has a black belt in martial arts. Earlier this year, Sebopa was sent to Detroit for further training at the organisation’s headquarters.

KKC was officially launched in South Africa in October this year, but the programme has been running in Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Hospital, Red Cross Children’s Hospital and Tygerberg Hospital since March this year.
