Donate blood conveniently in the Parkwood neighbourhood on 3 November

PARKWOOD – Join the blood drive in your suburb.

The Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents’ Association (Sapra) invites community members to join its upcoming blood drive scheduled to take place at the Northern Suburbs Tennis Club in Parkwood on 3 November.

Sapra committee member, Tracy Davies said she came up with the idea to host a blood drive after failing to convince her husband to participate in one of the A Re Sebetseng campaigns. “He said he would rather give blood than pick up litter,” said Davies.

She explained that this is the association’s fourth blood drive for the year, but they have not received the support they had expected at previous drives.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) set them the target of 13 units for this blood drive, which they hope to exceed.

“There is always a shortage of blood in the country, so there is always a need for additional blood drives. The idea behind this one is that it is on a weekend, and is located in a suburb and should be convenient for residents to just pop down at a time that suits them,” said Davies.

“It makes us proud to say that we have one in our own area – feels socially responsible,” she added.

Anyone who is healthy on the day and between the ages of 16 and 70 is invited to try and donate. Each unit of blood helps to save the lives of three people.

SANBS donor relations practitioner Sini Subrayen said that SANBS needs 3 200 units of blood daily across the country to keep up with demand.

“Sapra has been working hard to get community members to donate at this event. This is a life-saving project that should be supported by the community,” said Subrayen.

The drive will take place from 10am to 2pm at 25 Blandford Road, Parkwood.
