Roedean Academy hosts Prize Giving

PARKTOWN – The donor-funded initiative by Roedean School called Roedean Academy, held a prize-giving ceremony for the academy students from Barnato Park High School.

Roedean School (SA) spearheads a community programme called The Roedean Academy which focuses on providing English, mathematics, accounting and physical science lessons to high school children from Barnato Park High School. This is a donor-funded initiative and has been running successfully since its inception in 2009.

The Roedean Academy prize giving took place in October, in Founders Hall at Roedean School (SA).

It was a wonderful occasion, filled with much celebration, as the girls delighted in their own achievements, as well as the achievements of their friends.

Academy director Sandi McCallum spoke about the academy and then handed over to the academy girls who spoke about what they had done during the year and thanked their teachers. A highlight was the Grade 8 class who performed three of their own poems as a choral verse.

Praise Bongowongo, Sibongile Chiumie and Kalenga Mwamba collect their prizes from teacher, Fiona Rogers with Caroline Green assisting in the background.

Following the prize giving, the academy girls, teachers, parents, and guests were treated to a sumptuous tea in the beautiful Roedean Gardens. It was a very special day and all present left with a sense of fulfilment and achievement.
