KES student comes 5th in Gauteng Maths Olympiad

JOBURG – King Edwards VII School Grade 9 Jason Vermeulen came in fifth at the Gauteng Maths Olympiad.

 

The King Edward VII School has expressed pride in maths whizz Jason Vermeulen who came fifth in the provincial leg of the Junior Olympiad.

Vermeulen was the Grade 9 winner of the regional Olympiad before the provincial competition that took place at Hoërskool Drie Riviere on 8 September. Spokesperson for the school Lisa Slooten said that he achieved an 85 per cent average in the competition and received an academic silver award.

She added, “Jason’s strengths were in the problem solving and test area and where he may have lost some points was in the mental mathematics section.”

Head of mathematics at King Edwards VII School Janet Kyte said, “We as a school and Mathematics Department are very proud of his achievement.”
