#ICYMI: Two arrested in connection with hijacking in Bramley

JOBURG – The suspects arrested may have connections to other crimes.

A hijacked vehicle from Bramley has been recovered after a shootout between police and two suspects.

An intelligence-driven police operation led to the arrest of two suspects and recovery of an unlicensed firearm and hijacked vehicle during a shootout with police in Midrand last night (21 September) at around 11pm.

According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Mavila Masondo, “Police followed up on information of a vehicle that was hijacked in Bramley early this month. The vehicle was spotted in Allandale Road. It is alleged that as the police were stopping the vehicle, suspects started shooting at the police who then shot back.”

He added that a chase ensued until the suspects stopped and jumped out of the car while shooting at the police.

“One suspect was shot and injured. Both suspects were arrested and police seized an unlicensed firearm and a hijacked vehicle.”

The suspects will appear at the Midrand Magistrates’ Court soon facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of hijacked vehicle and attempted murder.

Investigation is underway to determine if the suspects can be linked to other crimes.
