Deutsche Internationale Schule Club Johannesburg (DSCJ) scores 104 goals in 11 matches

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Club Johannesburg (DSCJ) U12 soccer team has been nothing short of perfect this season.

The Auckland Park side has won all 11 of its league games so far in the Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) Division 2 League.

But what is more surprising is how they have won them. The team has scored 104 goals in those 11 matches – averaging nine and a half goals per match.

They lead the league by six points, ahead of Old Parks Soccer Club in second spot, with nine games left.

DSCJ is also set to play Old Parks in the quarter-final of the RCLFA Cup at Old Parks in Bordeaux on 26 August.

After a recent 5–1 drubbing of Marlboro Gardens Football Club, DSCJ coach Morgan van Rooyen did not appear conceited about his team’s success.

Instead, he explained that the German school used to compete in the league but at the start of the year, separated its soccer into a club format. The school did not have an U12 team last year, so the U11 side (which finished second in Division 1 last year) progressed to U12 level and had to start in Division 2.

“They are a great team that deserves promotion at the end of the season,” said Van Rooyen.

“The team gels well and shares the goals between players.”

Discussing the relatively harder match against Marlboro Gardens, Van Rooyen said his players kept their positions and countered Marlboro’s passing game by controlling possession and cutting passes off in defence.

The team has three practice sessions before the quarter-final against Old Parks, and Van Rooyen said he would not underestimate his opposition.
