SPAR Women’s Race Joburg is back

EMMARENTIA – It is time to book your entry for the SPAR Women's Race Joburg.

The SPAR Women’s Race Joburg is back and this year’s edition will be run on the same date it was last year, 7 October.

Marks Park Sports Club, Emmarentia, will again play host to thousands of runners as they take on 5km and 10km routes through beautiful suburbs in the name of fitness.

The last event in the six-race SPAR Grand Prix series will attract the top 10km women runners in the country as well as everyday social runners who want to support a good cause.

The race is always held in Breast Cancer Awareness Month and supports Reach for Recovery – a breast cancer support group that helps women with breast cancer return to daily life through providing free support as well as providing a prosthesis service.

Last year, R60 000 was raised for the group.

New to the race is the Face of the SPAR Women’s Race Joburg.

More about this campaign will be revealed soon.

Entries are open so you can either enter online at www.sparjoburgrace.co.za or pay a visit to a SPAR, SUPERSPAR or sports store listed on the same website.

The first 16 000 pre-entries will receive one-size-fits-all T-shirts.

The first 16 000 finishers will each receive a medal and goodie bag.

Pre-entries (before 25 September) for the 5km run/walk and 10km challenge are R100, with a temporary licence for the 10km costing R20.

Late entries (from 4 October) cost R110, with the licence also R20 for the 10km.

Schools with more than 20 pre-entries stand in line to win laptops, school images and flatbed colour print, fax, copy and scan printers.

There are monetary prizes of up to R10 000 for the winners of the 10km challenge in the various divisions.

Also, remember to drop off a pair of unwanted running shoes that are still in good condition to children in need through the ‘Drop a pair and show you care’ campaign.

Shoes can be brought to the race on the day, or delivered beforehand to Caxton Local Media’s offices at 368 Jan Smuts Avenue, Craighall, or 1187 Cornelius Street, corner JG Strijdom Road, Weltevreden Park.
