Rosebank Fire Station is not closed, but rather under renovation

ROSEBANK – Joburg Emergency Management Services department has confirmed that the Rosebank Fire Station has not closed down, as has been rumoured, but is under renovation.

The spokesperson for Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Robert Mulaudzi has confirmed that the Rosebank Fire Station’s staff are on standby and its fire engine is still operational despite renovations being conducted at their premises in Baker Street.

“The fire station is not sold, as has been rumoured. It is just being upgraded so that the old station can meet international required standards for today’s demand,” said Mulaudzi.

“Residents do not need to panic. The firefighters and fire engine are now operating from the Randburg Fire Station. The people we are servicing in the Rosebank area will not be affected by this renovation.”

Mulaudzi added that the public could still call the emergency number in the case of a fire and the closest fire truck would be dispatched to the scene.

The Rosebank Fire Station will soon operate from the ground floor of the building at the corner of Baker Street and Bath Avenue and an office block is being built on top of it.

Mulaudzi said he was unsure about when the renovation project would be completed but would like to reassure the public that this would not affect the Emergency Management Service’s ability to render their services to Rosebank residents.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck said he was excited about the upgrade of the fire station which would expand the size of the station to hold bigger fire engines to serve the growing business hub of Rosebank.

“Rosebank is growing to include tall buildings of 16 storeys,” he said.

“We need a fire station that can handle this. The new station is supposed to have a bigger section to fit in the fire engine, include a museum of the historic station as well as a kitchen, office and chill area.”

Mulaudzi said, “Walk-ins are not possible, but people in an emergency situation can still call 011 375 5911 and they will be attended to as per usual.”
