Christmas in July gains momentum in Parkhurst

PARKHURST – Bright lights lined up 4th Avenue and drew community members to the stalls set up for charity donations for Christmas in July.

Lights adorned and brightened the streets of Parkhurst as they bustled with life from residents attending Christmas in July.

There was a line-up of stalls which residents could visit and donate money while they receive either a beauty product, accessory or food in return. One stall owner and marketing manager Jean-Pierre van Wyk said they took part in the event every year.

“We have two stores that allow us to stand outside their doors and accept donations. These are Pets Paraphernalia and Blue Symmetry which is a ladies’ clothing store. Whatever donations or proceeds we receive go straight to the Sandton SPCA.”

Two of the attendants, Ashleigh Shields and Lynda de Wet, expressed how much they enjoyed the Christmas mood and added that they had not spotted the Grinch yet. Themba Ndlovu said he had spotted the ‘green monster’ but he made sure that it did not steal Christmas.
