#Parkhurst: Residents woken by gunshots at midnight as cable thief shoots at officers

PARKHURST – Residents neighbouring around Parkhurst Primary School thought they were hearing things after gunshot noises were heard in the middle of the night.

Parkhurst residents were woken up by gunshots in the middle of the night on 13 July.

Marketing manager at Cortac said, “At approximately 3.30am the proactive Cortac vehicle came across suspect cutting and stealing copper cables near Texas cafe in Parkhurst. When approached the suspect pulled a firearm and opened fire on the Cortac officers.”

The officers returned fire and gave chase. A suspect was seen jumping into Parkhurst Primary School where Parkview police and Cortac officers conducted a search of the premises for the suspect. A hand-held saw was recovered at the entrance to the school.”

Josh Isaacs from Cortac confirmed that there was one suspect at the scene and despite a large number of shots fired, no one got injured.

Parkview police have been contacted to ascertain if there were any arrests.
