An underground pipe poured water onto the street on 26 June. Residents took to Twitter to voice their concerns that a leak had been reported over a week ago and had not yet been attended to. Suburbs such as Parkwood, Saxonwold, Parktown North, Rosebank and Dunkeld were without water.

Ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck immediately escalated the matter to Johannesburg Water. The community was assured that water would return by midnight, alas this was not to be the case.
Repairs had been made to the pipe but the happy ending was short-lived. Early the next morning (27 June) the pipe cracked again, resulting in extended water outages.
