Williams also acknowledged the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) for clearing the drainage channels and wayward kerb inlets within a troublesome section of Hurlingham Park.

“I am still very worried about pollution of the stream. Much gunge came out of there today. Ongoing education is required regarding why streams must be kept clear.”

Overseer of the Illovo side clean-up, Puterman also commended the team she worked with, Team Emerald Woods. The team lined up sides of the flowerbed slates, placed rocks, planted more cuttings, picked up litter and removed dead leaves from the agapanthus plants.

She said with regards to the next clean-up’s requirements, “We need more slate so we can lay another path, soil to fill up the nooks and crannies around the rocks for plants and in August I will see which kinds of veggies and delosperma [types of succulents] are available in nurseries.”
