Police make a breakthrough about robberies at an intersection in Hyde Park, three arrested

JOBURG – Toy gun recovered from men suspected of being involved in a spate of robberies at an intersection in Hyde Park.

Police have made a breakthrough regarding robberies at an intersection in Hyde Park.

Spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi explained, “Three suspects were arrested on 7 April following reports by motorists complaining about a group of robbers who are allegedly terrorising them at the intersection. An operation was planned and the area was monitored by undercover cops.”

He highlighted that during the undercover operation, four men were spotted loitering near the intersection. “The police then kept a closer watch on them. The suspects went towards a Porsche Cayenne vehicle which happened to stop at the traffic light. One of the suspects allegedly smashed the window but failed to get anything out of the car. ”

At this point, police were already around trying to apprehend them but they ran in different directions. The officers gave chase and finally managed to arrest three of them. During the arrest, a toy gun was found.

According to Mogodi, detectives are working on the case to establish if the three arrested suspects can be linked to cases already reported at Bramley Police Station or elsewhere.

In a separate incident, five suspects were arrested for robbery in Kew recently. It is alleged that the complainant was approached by five persons who had been sitting in a VW Golf . Four of them began to assault and search the victim.

A woman, who claimed to be a police official and pretending to be helping the victim, was with them. Community members came to assist the complainant by calling the police.

It was only upon the arrival of the Bramley police that the woman was exposed as an imposter. All five suspects were arrested and will appear in court soon.

The female suspect will face an additional charge of impersonating a police official.

Other recent arrests made by Bramley police include:

  • 2 for drunk and driving
  • 2 for assault related to domestic violence
  • 10 for possession of dagga
  • 1 for rape
  • 1 for possession of drugs
  • 1 for shoplifting
  • 2 for possession of suspected stolen property
  • 1 for contravention of the Maintenance Act

Mogodi urged community members to report all types of crime to police, saying that the fight against crime must be a joint effort.
