Taxi crashes into lamp pole on Oxford Road, leaves three injured

HOUGHTON – One of the critically injured patients was airlifted by ER24 to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

Three people were injured last night, 9 April, when a taxi crashed into a lamp pole on Oxford Road in Houghton.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find the taxi on the side of the road against a lamp post. A man and woman were found trapped inside the vehicle while a third patient was found walking around on the scene.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, Rescue Services had to use various extrication equipment to free the two people from the taxi. Once freed, paramedics assessed the two patients and found that they were in a critical condition.

The patient initially found walking around the scene had sustained only minor injuries.

Paramedics provided the two critically injured with advanced life support interventions.

Once treated, one of the critically injured patients was airlifted by ER24 to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.

The two other patients were transported by ambulance.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
