Rolex Gang strikes again in Rosebank

ROSEBANK – Several cases of armed robbery which are linked to the Rolex Gang have been reported to the Rosebank Police Station.

The Rosebank Police Station has warned residents about a recent spike in armed robberies, believed to have been committed by the Rolex Gang.

The spokesperson for the Rosebank police, Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe, said that in the past three weeks several incidents have been reported to the station.

Mdletshe warned that the gang is very well organised, wears balaclavas to hide their faces and is aware of CCTV footage and the robberies take place within a few minutes.

“There are spotters all over, at malls and restaurants, as soon as they spot a watch they will communicate with the robbers because we have picked up that most of the people were followed to their homes or hotels.”

Mdletshe said there is CCTV footage of the vehicles and they have also identified some suspicious vehicles in the area. The vehicles used in the robberies include a grey BMW 3 Series, a white Toyota Fortuner, a grey Jeep Cherokee and a grey Volkswagen Tiguan.

“All of the registration numbers we found on those cars are false, they do not belong to those vehicles, so this is definitely organised crime. We want the public at large to be aware of it and report it if they see something suspicious.”

He also warned that the public should avoid wearing valuable watches out in public and appealed to the public to come forward if they have any information about where the watches are being sold, as all tip-offs are treated as confidential.

While the Rolex Gang is armed during the robberies Mdletshe said that as far as he is aware, no one has been hurt.

Previously, the Parkview Police Station also warned residents about the resurgence of the Rolex Gang. In the Parkhurst, Craighall and Parkview areas there had also been incidents reported. In the past three weeks, the Rosebank Killarney Gazette have identified at least five previous robberies with the Rolex Gang.

“We are working hard, using crime intelligence, to make sure that these perpetrators are arrested,” concluded Mdletshe.
