Rosebank police treated to a year-end function

PARKWOOD – Rosebank police officers were celebrated for their hard work during the year.

Police officers of the Rosebank Police Station were treated to an afternoon braai to thank them for all of their hard work this year.

The braai, hosted at the Northern Suburbs Tennis Club on 8 December, saw about 50 police officers being treated to an afternoon filled with food, cold drinks and music.

Sergeant Bongi Mdletshe, the spokesperson for the Rosebank Police Station said, “It’s a few people that sponsored this for us and we would just like to thank them all for the support that they give the station.”

Kim Hutton sponsored the catering for the day and has done so for the past few years. Hutton said the idea to help sponsor the event for the station came to him about six or seven years ago and since then he had always made an effort to celebrate the hard work of the police officers.

“It started when I saw in the headlines that Rosebank Police Station had been voted the best out of 1 200 other stations[in Gauteng in 2011],” he added. “I went there to say thank you and said they must have been inundated with phone calls but they had received none.”

Hutton decided to coordinate the braai for them as they did not have the funds for a year-end function. “They have always been incredibly grateful and it’s always really happy and jovial.”

Mdletshe added, “We really appreciate him coming here and showing his support and love.” He said they would have liked all the sponsors to come to the braai so that the police officers could meet the people behind their year-end function.

Police officers were also celebrated at the function for all of their accomplishments throughout the year. Constable Cosmos Thlako was named the best performing detective at the police station and Warrant Officer Robert Mtileni was named best performing visible policing officer. Louisa Brown was named the best administrative employee.
