The family-orientated event will begin with a 7.9km walk and a 5km walk at 8am and 8:30am respectively followed by live entertainment from local artists and well-known broadcast television and radio personalities.

The atmosphere will be enhanced by numerous enterprising food stalls and other activities available for participants to enjoy such as the #PoutForAPurpose initiative. The event will also feature live entertainment from Kaya FM presenters, e.tv personalities including the e.tv sunrise anchors and much more.

The objective of the Avon Justine iThemba Crusade of Hope programme is to ensure that the message that early detection saves lives is spread across the country so that women know the importance of breast health and having their annual mammograms as well as undertaking their monthly breast self-examinations.

Through the various strategic partnerships with non-government organisations, as well as the iThemba Walkathon, Avon Justine has been able to reach more than 15 million South Africans and is working towards reaching 20 million this year.

“Participants have the opportunity to #WalkForAPurpose and make their steps count by participating in the Avon Justine iThemba Walkathon. It is estimated that with early detection, more than 30 per cent of deaths due to breast cancer can be prevented, and an event such as the walkathon are a great way to spread the message that early detection really does save lives,” said Vicky Saunders-Flaherty of the walkathon.

Registrations for the walkathon are currently open. Tickets will cost R135 for adults and R90 for children between the ages of two and 12. Toddlers up to the age of two enter for free.
